Eye on the World

August 2014

What’s in the news—and how might you pray about it? Sentinel editors share prayerful insights into news stories from around the world, and provide links to related articles on JSH-Online.

Wars and threats seem to abound from Libya to Ukraine along with ongoing challenges in the Middle East. Earnest prayer that affirms the reality of God’s love for all and of His omnipotent goodness is a good starting point.

Events in Ferguson, Missouri, have made headlines around the world.  Prayer can help us deal with those headlines and open up the way for compassion, brotherly love, and peace.

The rise of anti-Semitism in the US, Europe, and elsewhere—as the battle between Israel and Hamas intensifies—bears watching. It’s also worth noting that bias against every race and culture always deserves our prayers for peace. The thoughts and experiences outlined in these articles can help bring about more love and less prejudice in our world.

The Sentinel staff keeps prayerful watch. From the widening conflict in Iraq to the continuing struggle between Israel and Hamas, prayer affirming the presence of the one divine Mind who “unifies men and nations . . . constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars …” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 340) is needed.
