How can we pray about suicide?

A few weeks ago, I found out that a friend from high school had committed suicide. Though she wasn’t someone with whom I was still close, the news was shocking and saddening. Perhaps more distressing was the fact that she isn’t the first person I’ve known who has taken her own life, and this realization made me want to be more proactive about praying about suicide in general.

One thing I’ve learned about praying effectively is that it’s helpful to look at what a problem claims is going on and then to find the spiritual fact, the truth about God and His creation, that nullifies that claim. For example, in the case of this friend and the several others I’ve known who have committed suicide, the claim is that there are no answers—that the problems they’re facing are too big, and they just can’t see a way out.

It’s helpful to look at what a problem claims is going on and then to find the spiritual fact, the truth about God and His creation, that nullifies that claim.
