Our college grad's job search

When our son graduated from college not long ago, it looked as if job prospects for recent graduates—especially for liberal arts majors—were not strong. After four years of studying, he was eager to find a place in the world where he could contribute and continue to grow. His job search began midway through his senior year, and, although he had sent out résumés and had had a few interviews, by graduation, a job wasn’t in place.

As we were thinking about this employment situation, Mary Baker Eddy’s statement “Each individual must fill his own niche in time and eternity” took on deeper meaning and was a good starting point for our prayers (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 70).

Reports in the media are filled with statistics about the unemployment or underemployment of our young people, and these reports can be particularly discouraging to those about to begin a career of their own. However, the above statement from Retrospection and Introspection applies to “each individual”—no one is left out or forgotten in God’s universe. The Bible is also full of assurances of God’s dear love for His children. Each one of us is precious to our heavenly Father-Mother. The book of Isaiah tells us, “Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee” (43:4).
