Finding Brady

Michelle and Brady

A couple of years ago, I received a very concerned call from my daughter, Michelle, telling me that her beautiful German Shepherd, Brady, was missing. She and her husband had searched the neighborhood and could not locate him. My wife and I dearly loved this dog, and so I was naturally concerned, but not frightened. I told Michelle that Brady was always with God, and that we all would be bearing witness to God’s good will being done “in earth, as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). The Lord’s Prayer declares this to be true, and we would demonstrate this fact.

Mary Baker Eddy counsels readers of her textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts” (p. 261). I began to ponder the application of this statement to the situation at hand. To me, holding thought steadfastly meant not to mentally wander off to another matter, or to entertain suggestions of doubt, and very important, not to outline solutions. After all, wasn’t I bearing witness to God’s loving will being done?
