From Boston to London to Singapore and beyond, people long to be free from disease, pain, fear, and suffering. They seek the understanding Jesus promised when he said, “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness” (John 12:46). He spread this light not only through healing people of all kinds of diseases but also by teaching his disciples how they too could heal. This was his legacy to the world. This magazine is about people who have felt the light of Christ in their lives and been healed. Through the Christ Science that Jesus taught and that Mary Baker Eddy devoted her life to articulating for humanity, you too can be healed.
Even though she spent much of her early life struggling with invalidism, Mrs. Eddy’s deep trust in God and love for humanity enabled her to comfort and heal people. In her autobiography she says that for 20 years she had been “trying to trace all physical effects to a mental cause; ….” Then, at a time when her life was in jeopardy from a serious injury, she discovered “how to be well myself, and how to make others so” (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 24). Her discovery not only restored her health but also revealed the Science behind Jesus’ healing work.
Mary Baker Eddy’s deep trust in God and love for humanity enabled her to comfort and heal people.
In the years that followed, she strove to explain the spiritual basis for the physical and mental freedom that Christian Science provides. One of the fruits of her labors to articulate God’s love for humanity is this magazine. Mary Baker Eddy’s primary work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, is mentioned often in the Sentinel’s pages. This book—along with the Bible—describes the laws that Jesus taught and proved. Written out of her own experience as a healer, it also explains how to practice Christian Science healing and experience its redeeming and liberating power. These two books are the Pastor of the Church of Christ, Scientist.
In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy declares: “Citizens of the world, accept the ‘glorious liberty of the children of God,’ and be free! This is your divine right” (p. 227).
The same freedom that Jesus taught and that Mary Baker Eddy proved for this age is present now for all people regardless of age, nationality, circumstances. This magazine gives you a taste of what is possible, but to learn more, you’ll need Science and Health. Mrs. Eddy advises: “Read this book from beginning to end. Study it, ponder it” (Science and Health, p. 559). If you have a copy, keep reading, and strive to put its concepts into practice. Each step you take thoughtfully and prayerfully will bring you home to the freedom and health that are already yours from God.
