Always employed

Live audio chat with Douglas Paul

Doug Paul is the Manager of the Human Resources department for The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. In this inspiring chat he explains that employment revolves around Jesus’ instruction that we need to love our neighbor as ourselves. This is the second command Jesus gave when he was asked “Which is the great commandment in the law?” (Matthew 22:39).

Among the questions to which Doug responds include those from people who are frustrated by going on interviews but not getting hired, those whose positions have been eliminated as a result of a company takeover, fears about finding a job when one is older. He also addresses fears about statistical projections that there will be fewer jobs in the future, boredom with one’s work, a parent’s concern about her son’s job prospects, and a spiritual approach to the work of human resources as a support to both the company and the employees.
