Feeling the effects of Christian Science

I began to feel the effects of Christian Science less than half an hour after finding it in 1993, which brings to mind a statement by the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy: “The effects of Christian Science are not so much seen as felt. It is the ‘still, small voice’ of Truth uttering itself” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 323).

Here’s how it happened. I was enjoying a book of my wife’s about metaphysical healing (she was not a Christian Scientist), and I asked her if she knew if the book was affiliated with any organization. She said, “Maybe Christian Science,” which I’d never heard of before. A few weeks later I noticed a sign reading “Christian Science Practitioner” in front of a nearby office, so I brought the book in to ask the practitioner if it was about Christian Science.

After examining the book, the practitioner said, “No.” We then spent half an hour chatting, and by the end of that time, I felt impressed by his qualities of both humility and spiritual strength—my first taste of feeling the effects of Christian Science.
