‘False report’ corrected

One night, I was awakened out of sleep with an upset stomach. I got out of bed, but it felt as though the room were spinning about me, and I was unable to stand without holding on to the bed. The dizziness got worse when I tried to put my head down on the pillow.

I reached out to God in prayer for help. I wanted to be reassured that the evidence the material senses was presenting to me was not the truth of my being as God’s image and likeness. The thought came to listen to the audio recording of an article in The Christian Science Journal titled “Accepting the true report” (Milton Simon, September 1946), about our spiritual being. I turned on the CD player and sat quietly on the edge of the bed, listening carefully to the spiritual truths shared.

The article references the biblical account of when Jonah was in the fish’s belly, with no apparent means of escape. Jonah prayed: “When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord” (Jonah 2:7–9). What Jonah had needed was a change of thought. When he turned wholeheartedly to God and acknowledged His power, he was freed from the fish’s belly.
