A ‘short and sweet’ healing experience

A few months ago, I woke up one morning feeling an odd discomfort, but I continued to go about my preparations for getting to work, albeit more slowly than usual. I spent a short time reading the weekly Bible Lesson found in the Christian Science Quarterly, and then as I was dressing I suddenly became overwhelmed with dizziness and nausea. I asked my husband to call one of my work colleagues and explain that I could not come in, as I was not well.

I lay down in bed and recalled that the subject of that week’s Bible Lesson was “Mortals and Immortals.” That title seemed to pose itself as a question and a demand: “Am I going to see myself as mortal or immortal? Choose now!”

Did I have the nature of the spiritual man of God’s creating mentioned in the first chapter of Genesis, the man God sees as “very good” and to whom He gave dominion? Or was I the material man depicted in the allegorical second chapter of Genesis—gullible, disobedient, and fearful?
