'Holy, holy, holy'

For the Lesson titled "Man" from September 1 - 7, 2014

This week’s Bible Lesson, titled “Man,” begins with a Golden Text from the final chapter of the Bible: “He that is holy, let him be holy still” (Revelation 22:11). Or, as the Contemporary English Version puts it, “God’s people will always be holy.”

But is holiness really an admirable quality? What about people who are “holier than thou”—self-righteous or just plain goody-goody? This Lesson explains that true holiness is the naturally good and pure state of the real spiritual man, created by God—and made
in His likeness. As Mary Baker Eddy explains in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “The real man cannot depart from holiness, nor can God, by whom man is evolved, engender the capacity or freedom to sin” (p. 475, citation 1).

The Lesson quotes the book of Leviticus several times as God commands the Israelites (through their leader Moses) to be “holy.” Because their creator is holy, they should be holy.
