Compelling proof

For the Lesson titled “Christian Science” from June 23 - 29, 2014

As recently as 1924, the world believed that the universe consisted exclusively of the Milky Way Galaxy—until Edwin Hubble discovered that the Andromeda Galaxy and others existed outside of and way beyond our own Milky Way. Since that discovery, many astronomers have proved Hubble’s breakthrough correct by discovering hundreds of billions of additional such galaxies.

I like to compare this to Mary Baker Eddy discovering the Science of Christianity that underlay Christ Jesus’ healing ministry some 2,000 years ago. Eddy proved her discovery through not only her own healing work, but also that of others she taught. That such healing continues today (as provided in testimonies in every issue of the Sentinel) is evidence of the continuing verification of the repeatable and demonstrable Science of Christian healing.

The first section of this Bible Lesson, titled “Christian Science,” explains that the Bible was Mary Baker Eddy’s sourcebook: “In following these leadings of scientific revelation, the Bible was my only textbook” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 110, citation 6).
