Healing is ‘proof of heaven’

Not long ago I awoke on a Wednesday morning with a sore throat. By afternoon it had become very painful. At the time, I was about halfway through reading Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. As I read, I gained a deeper appreciation of the fact that the Christ, and the promised Comforter, are here now and presently active. That made me feel joyful and gave me strength for the day’s activities. I also found myself really looking forward to the Wednesday evening testimony meeting at the local Christian Science branch church. I just knew it would be the perfect way to bring the day to a close.

When I walked into church, I was filled with love for everyone there. It felt like home, and a wonderful sense of being at peace and safe came over me. The organ prelude was sweet and soothing. The subject of the readings was “heaven.” As the testimonies began, the phrase “proof of heaven” came to thought. (It is the title of a popular book written by Dr. Eben Alexander about his near-death experience, which proved to him that heaven is real.) At that moment, I knew that all the healings I had ever experienced, as well as the ones I had heard in Christian Science churches and read in the Christian Science periodicals, were my proof of heaven. The last hymn we sang that night included the words “the angels, bending near the earth” (Edmund H. Sears, adapted, Christian Science Hymnal, No. 158 ). It felt like every testimony I had just heard was a God-sent angel message reaching out to all mankind, saying heaven is right here, right now.

Later that night, as I was getting ready for bed, I realized that I was completely well—not a trace of a sore throat. I awoke the next morning still feeling perfectly healthy. I am so grateful for Christian Science, God’s Comforter, which is continually providing mankind with proof of heaven.
