Dancing again

The Christian Science pastor —the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy—has always been a source of great comfort and healing to me. Recently I had another occasion to prove its value after I caught my heel in a dance class.

I had fallen flat on my back, and the first thing I saw when I looked up was 30 ladies staring down at me. Everyone was concerned and helpful, of course, and I assured them I was fine and continued to dance. Before we left, one lady asked me to promise to take medication because of the pain she said I might experience later on. I thanked her, but told her that I would be all right. I did feel fine at the time, though later in the day I began to feel pain in my wrist and other areas of my body.

I knew from my study of Christian Science that I had never fallen from God’s blessings and grace. I began to pray, affirming that no mind or eyes could see anything else but the good He created. I knew that God was my only Mind and had full responsibility for healing, and my job was to acknowledge this. I also affirmed that I had an abundance of health, strength, and power. Because the idea of abundance is an essential element of God’s goodness, I knew I could not lack anything I needed as one of His loved children. I certainly had an abundance of ideas from Mind, God, with which to pray. I recognized, too, that evil of any kind is a lie and can be immediately resisted. God and His idea are all that is—He’s the All-in-all, the source of everyone’s being, always caring for us.
