You are always loved

A neighborhood boy and I went through school from kindergarten to high school and at times came into conflict. After graduation we lost contact, but for many years, whenever I thought of my childhood, the ill will he’d shown toward me and the negative attitude I had developed toward him always came to thought.

As I grew in my understanding of Christian Science, I prayed to be healed of these unwanted feelings. I knew by holding on to this unpleasant picture, I was denying God’s ever-present love in which we both lived. I was led to reexamine the conflict that existed between Jacob and Esau as recorded in the Bible (see Genesis, chapters 27–33).

With encouragement from his mother, Jacob behaved deceptively toward his brother, Esau. This led to a breakdown in the relationship, and Esau vowed to kill him. Jacob fled his homeland to live with his uncle, Laban, who in turn deceived him. From this he learned some deep spiritual lessons.
