God's 'unspeakable gift'

For the Lesson titled "Christian Science" from December 24 - 30, 2012

December Full Text cover
This week’s Bible Lesson on “Christian Science” opens with these words from Second Corinthians: “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift” (9:15, Golden Text). The Amplified Bible expands the meaning of this verse: “Now thanks be to God for His Gift, [precious] beyond telling [His indescribable, inexpressible, free Gift]!” Each section of this Lesson “unwraps” this gift, Christian Science, revealing its beauty and utility.

Christian Science is based on the Bible. Both Old Testament prophecy and New Testament Gospels and epistles describe the healing effect of God’s gift: “Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing” (Isaiah 35:5, 6, citation 2).

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy confirms that “divine Science derives its sanction from the Bible, and the divine origin of Science is demonstrated through the holy influence of Truth in healing sickness and sin” (p. 146, cit. 1).
