Victory over a food allergy

For a long time, I had noticed an itching in my mouth whenever I ate avocados. I thought nothing about this slight reaction until a severe situation forced me to turn wholly to God to seek healing and understanding.

One day in the summer of 2009, I made myself a sandwich including avocado. I took the sandwich to eat in my office while I worked on a graduate school project. Very quickly after the first few bites, my mouth and throat began to swell, my tongue became swollen, and breathing was difficult.

I was renting a room in my house to a fellow graduate student, but she was not home at the time, so I wondered if I should call 911 for help. I recalled a phrase from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures to the effect that God is equal to all emergencies. The entire section reads: “The Bible contains the recipe for all healing. ‘The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.’ Sin and sickness are both healed by the same Principle. The tree is typical of man’s divine Principle, which is equal to every emergency, offering full salvation from sin, sickness, and death” (Mary Baker Eddy, p. 406).
