Listen . . . and follow

A fellow I know is working to transform a fixer-upper property. While his spirit of endeavor is broad, his budget is narrow.

He told me that one day the inspiration came to him to go look for plants at a specific home improvement store in another town. At first he resisted the idea because the same store close by didn’t have what he needed. But the nudge to go persisted, and since he is working to be more obedient to the direction that quietly catches his attention, he went to the store. When he got there, he found that there was a plant sale, and for a few hours only, the plants were deeply discounted even further. Looking carefully at what appeared to be a poor selection, he discovered a good number of healthy plants. In fact, he was able to purchase all of the major plants needed for his yard at a fraction of his budget!

When something like this happens once, it feels like serendipity. When it becomes a common occurrence in one’s life, as my young friend is finding, you begin to realize something more than chance is at work.
