Prayer that covers the bases

EVEN BASEBALL METAPHORS have a place when we consider our spirituality and health. Well-being is not only a matter of "touching base" with God but making sure that "the bases get covered." Perfect and permanent health takes thorough prayerful work, an increasingly significant sense of God's divine law of good always in action.

I recall a time when I regularly began to wake up at night, a couple of hours after falling asleep—with great pain in my intestinal region. Through prayer, I'd been healed before of health problems, and so I again reached out to God in those late moments, each time finding relief and falling back asleep.

It's a fact of creation and a fundamental point for prayer, that God is pure goodness and that He loves His children. This goodness and love ensure a universe governed by a divine order that empowers us to overcome pain and suffering. But as I learned from this experience, my prayer needed to be more thorough or cover some issues I hadn't been considering.
