FOR TEENS

BACK IN THE GAME

I CRINGED in pain as I forcefully kicked the soccer ball, sending it flying across the field to my teammate.

"When will this ever end?" I thought to myself. Just the week before, I'd twisted my knee while making a sharp turn in a defensive move on the soccer field. I really enjoy playing on my college varsity team, and the last thing I wanted to do was to sit out during the games and practices.

At first, I forced myself to work hard, although it was painful. The frustration I felt was clearly reflected in my playing—I made tentative passes and slow tackles. I just wasn't enjoying the game anymore.
