A QUICK AND DECISIVE HEALING

One morning I slammed my thumb against the car door. There was immediate pain, as if I'd sprained or dislocated it.

My mother and brother recently had had similar injuries that involved hospital X-rays and bandages or splints, which added to my initial fear. But I knew from my experience in Christian Science that I needed to get control of panicky thoughts because my thinking would influence the outcome of this incident. If I accepted a material view of myself as physical and vulnerable to accident and injury, it would be more difficult for me to be free of those beliefs.

I immediately reached out to God for a sense of His presence, instead of looking at my hand. I turned wholeheartedly to Him. Then this verse from Psalms came to mind: "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?" (139:7).
