Thanks for your message on the cover of the October 9 issue ["Life is not a gamble"]. Magazine covers have power to influence for good.

I remember very vividly one day in September 1997 when I was fixing to put my older dog to sleep. Then something happened. Sometime during that day, I came across an older Sentinel with the cover that read, "Choose Life," and I knew right at that moment that God did not require me to sacrifice anything good in my life.

In the following days I proceeded to find a suitable place to live that permitted me to keep my dog for another seven years, as well as giving me work to do. The medium is the message.
