PRAYER FOR A SON'S SAFETY

When high-school senior Nathan Sharp returned home to Toronto in early August from a month abroad in Paris, he was accompanied by a French exchange student, whose family Nathan had been staying with. They were on board an Air France Airbus as it approached Toronto's Pearson International Airport. The weather had suddenly turned severe with rain, lightning, and extremely poor visibility. As the plane landed, it overshot the runway and, within minutes, burst into flames. Despite the fire and smoke, all 309 passengers and crew survived.

While Nathan remained amazingly calm during the crash and its aftermath, his parents, Pat and Ian Sharp, were at the airport, both praying deeply for Nathan's safety, as well as for the safety of everyone else involved.

Pat waited in their van, which couldn't be parked in the parking lot because of height restrictions, while Ian went inside the terminal to wait for Nathan's arrival. Pat begins by telling how she and Ian discovered something was wrong with Nathan's flight.
