Spiritual insight brings creative freedom ... and physical healing

I'm a composer and a pianist. From childhood on, I was warned about the need to protect my hands from severe strain or "risky" activities. Teachers informed me of famous pianists who had their hands insured for huge sums of money. By the time that I studied with my final teacher, a world-famous piano pedagogue, her admonitions convinced me of the need to refrain from many physical activities. A foundation of fear was firmly entrenched in my thought.

For about 20 years, I avoided playing any sort of sports. When it was necessary to do yard work or house repairs, I would be fearful of the strain on my hands and subsequently experience stiffness and pain. It would take several days of practice and doing various muscular relaxation exercises to feel free again.
