A CONTINUING SERIES ON HOW CHURCH IS ACTIVE IN PEOPLE'S LIVES

Healing prayer in church

When I was about 13, I began attending Wednesday evening church services regulary at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, in addition to weekly Sunday School classes. Although I was not a member yet, I had a genuine feeling of belonging, and I would often help out with church-related activities.

Through the years, membership in several branch churches has taught me that active membership includes unselfish prayer, which focuses not on what you can get out of church but on what you can bring to it. Some important healings have occurred along my journey.

One summer during college, for instance, I realized I couldn't hear out of one ear. I could barely hear much of what was said in church services, but I was comforted to realize that I could always hear what God was telling me.
