'Have a large day!'

I laughed when I read the message on the tee shirt my friend was wearing: "I'm stressed only on days that end in 'y.'" For a lot of us, each day from Monday through Sunday certainly seems stressful, with new demands on our time and attention piling on top of the usual responsibilities. Trying to get everything done can seem like an impossible dream.

Have you noticed, though, that no matter how busy or stressed they are, people often end a conversation by saying, "Have a nice day"? Sometimes you hear that phrase so often you don't really hear it at all—much less find it helpful.

A friend of mine put a new twist on that comment, however, which I really did find helpful. We were just finishing an early-morning phone conversation and saying goodbye, when he signed off with a cheerful, "Have a large day!"
