Scar disappears after 20 years

Originally aired on Sentinel Radio

When I was about 14 years old, I hopped over a barbedwire fence to cross through a pasture. I had begun to walk a little way when, all of a sudden, I had a feeling that I wasn't alone.

I turned and saw a bull pacing. Then he charged at me. I ran back to the barbed-wire fence and scrambled back over it, but one of the barbs caught the back of my hand and tore a deep, long gash into it.

The scar that was left from that incident looked like a picture or an etching of a barbed-wire fence on the back of my hand. Even the little dots that were evenly spaced along its thin line looked like the barbs on the wire. For me, it wasn't painful or even a bad thing to have. I became almost proud of it. I showed it to people. It was like a little trophy. I remember telling people that I would never be able to forget how this happened, because I had a picture of it right on my hand.
