Healing of a heart condition

The Hebrew greeting shalom has another meaning in addition to "peace." It can also include the concept of wholeness that is attained by living in a right spiritual relationship with God. This leads to a physical well-being that is a result of subjecting one's heart to God and respecting His commandments.

The thought of subjecting my heart to God and following His commandments touched my physically ailing heart. For several months my heart suffered from palpitation, and the left-hand side of my body ached and felt tired. I was very concerned. But I recognized that my physical well-being was unquestionable, provided my heart was in obedience to God and His commandments. I set my heart on a spiritually mission-driven journey, searching all that I could find on heart in the Bible and in Mary Baker Eddy's writings, obeying the commands that followed from this research. I thoroughly enjoyed the different stops that I encountered on this journey, especially those that were unfamiliar to me.

Deuteronomy, for example, told me, "Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked" (10:16). This awakened me to identify inflexibility, hardness, pride, disobedience, in my life and to heal them. I found so many opportunities to eradicate stiffness in my heart. And Ezekiel urged me, "Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit" (18:31). Indeed, I daily felt renewed as I prayed to change my thoughts about my heart.
