A TWENTY-SOMETHING'S TAKE ON THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

The following is an excerpt from a letter written to the editors of a national magazine in response to their publication of an article on the Ten Commandments.

I think of the Ten Commandments as God's gift to us. Just as a loving parent provides his or her children with guidance and protection, the Ten Commandments are one of the means by which our loving Father-Mother God cares for us. Striving to understand the deeper meaning of these moral laws and to follow them has made me feel closer to God, and has repeatedly shown me that spiritual growth and healing are the natural outcomes of one's closeness to Him/Her.

My life is full of examples of healing through prayer—healings of relationship difficulties, back and knee injuries, burns, sports injuries, and economic difficulties, just to name a few. I attribute all of them to God's care, and I'm certain that the same type of love and provision I have felt from God—who is divine Love—is available to everyone.
