The essence of companionship

One of the most common problems in human experience is the need for companionship. This can range through all stages of our lives. As with all other needs there is an answer that begins with God, and from this basis meets the human demand. A keener sense of man's oneness, or unity, with God quiets fear and fills the need for comfort and assurance.

Mrs. Eddy puts the question in Science and Health. She asks: "Would existence without personal friends be to you a blank? Then the time will come when you will be solitary, left without sympathy; but this seeming vacuum is already filled with divine Love."^{Science and Health, p. 266.} The corollary to this statement is that existence need not be a blank, and if we find the divinely sustaining truth of man's oneness with God, we need not be faced with the distresses that come from a personal sense of dependence. We can be ahead of the challenge.

Why wait until you're forced to deal with a lack or a burden before you find the divine remedy? The wholeness and completeness of man in God's likeness is a scientific truth that naturally governs the human circumstance. When understood it will be the law to our experience.
