My parents became students of Christian Science when I was attending...

My parents became students of Christian Science when I was attending college more than fifteen hundred miles from home. I remember thinking at that time that my parents would have found Christian Science more difficult to demonstrate if they had had small children in their home. Ten years later, as a student of Christian Science with children of my own, I was joyously proving the falsity of that line of thinking. Indeed, the Bible prophecy "a little child shall lead them" (Isa. 11:6) has been fulfilled in my home, as I have witnessed the natural receptivity of children to divine Truth. This receptivity has resulted in many quick healings.

After the birth of our fourth child, the pediatrician informed me and my husband that the valve on our daughter's heart had not properly closed. He advised us that if, after six weeks, it still had not closed as it should, an operation would be necessary. This diagnosis filled me with fear and, although I had not yet accepted Christian Science for myself, I asked my parents to pray for the baby. They lovingly agreed. I still felt fearful by the time the baby's checkup came six weeks later, but the doctor had completely forgotten the episode. I had to ask him specifically if our daughter's heart was all right. "It's perfect" was his reply on examining her.

I soon visited a Christian Science practitioner, as I could not seem to rid myself of an accumulation of fears about sickness and death that I had gathered over the years. I will never forget that first visit with a practitioner. The spiritual truths she calmly voiced freed me of fear, and I walked out of that office greatly blessed.
