Letting our light shine

That great statement in John's Gospel (1:5), "The light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not," can have a further meaning, as brought out, for example, by The New English Bible: "The light shines on in the dark, and the dark has never mastered it." We might say the statement represents a recognition of the Christ, Truth, ever present in the world.

Material sense testimony is the world's darkness, but material sense, as well as what it believes, is illusion—actually null and void. Mortal man, experiencing the darkness, is an accumulation of unchallenged material beliefs, absorbed in material sense, and having no real identity, substance, or intelligence.

In God—and in His universe and His man—there is no darkness, no material selfhood, no matter. There are no false beliefs to honor. God is the only Mind, the one creator. Man, who expresses God and the divine nature, is the unfoldment of divine intelligence, radiance, beauty, and love. Each individual is precious to God, and necessary to the wholeness of His self-expression.
