God's love ensures ours

To believe your happiness depends on another's expression of love for you can leave you in a living room turned waiting room, with self-pity knocking at the door. What can you do then? Plunge into activity? Perhaps. But busyness can be just a varnish on loneliness.

Happiness rooted in spirituality is unacquainted with the unwanted guests of loneliness, concern, jealousy. Genuine bliss is immune to any creeping anxiety that love may be shipwrecked by character faults, which may emerge when physical attraction ebbs. Real bliss doesn't have thoughts of resentment or the incompleteness of feeling just half of a whole. It is never jolted by the shock of discovering that one is virtually married to one's spouse's career!

And how is such bliss secured? In the Christian Science textbook the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, defines "bride" as "purity and innocence, conceiving man in the idea of God; a sense of Soul, which has spiritual bliss and enjoys but cannot suffer." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 582;
