A CLARION CALL

When a nation is called out to defend itself against an enemy intruder, it amasses its strong, capable young men and women and gives them, under skilled leadership, the very best basic training it can devise. This is an imperative step if victory is to be won.

Concerning another type of warfare, the dauntless Leader of the Christian Science movement, Mary Baker Eddy, alerts her followers thus: "The great battle of Armageddon is upon us" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 177). Is not this a clarion call for Christian Scientists to enlist and train an army of young Christian warriors that the victory over evil may be won? Of such warriors as these Mrs. Eddy says tenderly (Pulpit and Press, p. 9), "Ah, children, you are the bulwarks of freedom, the cement of society, the hope of our race!"

To this end, the Christian Science Sunday Schools are a necessary training center in the fundamentals of Christian education; and of their glorious work much has been said and written. Less, however, has been said, written, or known concerning another basic and even more potent educational institution for the training of young Christian warriors, namely, the home and the Christian Science parent. And yet the home is the natural classroom for the child, and parents are the natural and most logical teachers in the all-important subject of Christian living.
