The Control of Spirit

All through the Bible we can trace God's loving guidance of those who trusted in Him, and with the light which Christian Science throws upon the Scriptures we are able to discern the control which Spirit holds over our lives. According to the Old Testament, the prophets continually turned to God to guide and lead them. They heard His voice and obeyed Him unfalteringly, without doubt or fear.

Moses would never have attempted to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and captivity but for the assurance of God's guidance. He must have spent long hours communing with God, divine Mind, becoming conscious of his spiritual selfhood and of his ability to carry out the divine commands. One can understand that in the solitude of the desert, beneath the sun or the stars, his thoughts would dwell with the infinite One, and that this receptive attitude and quietness of thought would bring him the realization of Love's ever-presence and omnipotence. He heard God speak, directing and guiding him, giving him a great and glorious work to do, with the promise of strength and help successfully to carry it through.

David also had a clear and certain sense of God's loving power and presence, and through following the leadings of Truth he was protected from the javelin of Saul and overcame Goliath, thus proving the powerlessness of evil to destroy those who were trusting in the one God.
