Facing my fears

It seems as if fears fall into different categories. Things such as fear of mice, ghost stories, and falling in public may seem somewhat ridiculous, while others, like uncertainty about the future and fear of violence, might feel like legitimate things to worry about. No matter what the fear is, I have learned to pray about it through my understanding of Christian Science.

During Primary class instruction in Christian Science, a seed was sown in my thinking that has now taken root and is making me rethink my casual brushing away of fears that seem ridiculous. We talked about the importance of being alert to subtler forms of error, of mistaken thinking, that try to slip into consciousness.

An example given in the class made the point that we needed to be alert to feelings such as timidity in certain situations and even a more general shyness, because they can be subtle forms of fear.
