Love alert

As I was leaving the gym this morning, feeling accomplished in my workout, two ladies near me piped up to say that today was going to be a tough day for allergy sufferers. In fact, they said an “Alert” had been placed on the day. Briefly, I thought, by whom and on whose authority?

Before going to the gym, I’d been praying and thinking about letting only God’s voice be the authority to which I would listen. So this “Alert” didn’t upset me. I reminded myself that it is the messages of Mind, God, that count.

If to be alert means to be watchful, perceptive, responsive, and attentive as at least one dictionary points out, why do the so-called effects of a microscopic particle get to co-opt its meaning? The qualities in that definition all sound amazingly spiritual to me—not at all about matter.
