In “The uses of gratitude in diplomacyThe Christian Science Monitor’s Editorial Board remarks on President Obama’s recent appeal to Europeans to help address the continent’s current challenges by recognizing with gratitude “the progress they have already made.” The editorial points out: “The facts today in Europe cry out for gratitude. A continent that was once in constant war now has people desperately trying to enter it.” It also cites one US professor’s observation that gratitude “is a way to foster long-term thinking and patience.”
