Eye on the world: Giving is natural

In “After another China disaster, giving again in spotlightThe Christian Science Monitor observes that although “China ranks near the bottom on a world giving index,” recent explosions in the city of Tianjin resulted in marked generosity from citizens and groups. The Monitor notes that despite the Communist Party’s concerns about charities that might challenge its leadership, “Giving comes from the heart, making it difficult for the party to either encourage or control…. the trend looks good for more giving in China.”
