Eye on the World: Christmas and New Years

As Christmas approaches, many people are taking time out from their schedules to travel, to spend time with family and friends, and to celebrate the holidays through acts of charity and generosity. The holidays are a wonderful time to celebrate the Christ — which Mary Baker Eddy called “the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 332).

‘Tis always the season to entertain angels” explores how we can open our thinking to God’s inspiration, both during the Christmas season and throughout the year. The author points out that angels, divine messages of protection and healing, are constantly available to each of us, guiding us to lives filled with love, joy, peace, and productivity.

In “New joys at Christmas,” an author shares how she was led to share the spirit of the Christmas season with others in her community. She quotes from Eugene Peterson’s book God’s Message of Christmas Love: “Everything about Jesus spoke of servitude. … God delights in giving—it’s what [H]e does best.”
